Overview
EnQii-DVM designed a unique two-part installation that created a gold mine of new ad revenue for Liberty Travel and has greatly enhanced the Liberty stores. The installation is now in 50 of 200+ stores, and will go into 50 more in 2008.
Objectives
The Network has six objectives, each of which is being achieved:
(1) Raise new ad revenue by replacing static light boxes with screens that showcase offerings from many Liberty suppliers
(2) Enable suppliers to connect with customers at point of decision
(3) Enhance stores by decorating, providing ideas, and reducing perceived wait-times
(4) Empower Liberty’s HQ staff to create and narrowcast local messages
(5) Increase in-store traffic by luring passers-by with screens
(6) Leverage locations by placing portrait screen in “night position” in window at dusk
Description
Rather than static light boxes, customers in many Liberty Travel stores see a striking four-screen synchronized panorama of moving images that bring destinations to life. Customers are captivated by alluring scenes, such as waves crashing across the eight-foot panorama. Also, each store has a portrait screen that can be viewed in-store at day and through the window at night. The screens help customers envision their options and stimulate discussions with Liberty agents. This carefully crafted digital signage solution is a win-win-win for customers, suppliers, and Liberty.
Results
Liberty has more than 90 suppliers advertising on the network, generating much more ad revenue than they did with static light boxes. Also, the success of the network is reflected in its rapid growth. Liberty installed in their top 50 locations in ‘07 and will install in another 50 in ‘08. Why? Because the economics of this network really work. The network gives Liberty an enormous new inventory of highly desirable ad space to sell.
Problems/Challenges
With scores of Liberty suppliers wanting to have their images showcased, EnQii-DVM had to create a special process that enables suppliers to post source material on an ftp site to be developed by motion-graphic artists.
Also, installation in some locations was complicated by the large size of the four-screen panorama. However, with careful planning by the EnQii-DVM team, those challenges were overcome.
Solutions
The Network has powerful updating and narrowcasting tools that enable content to be refreshed frequently and narrowly tailored for groups of stores.
Also, the four-screen panorama has …
• Synchronized content that utilizes the wide expanse creatively
• A brushed aluminium casing that attractively unites the four screens
The portrait screen has…
• A powerful, Web-based local messaging tool that enables employees to post store-specific messages via any browser
• A customized swing-arm that enables the screen to be displayed at a variety of angles
The Network has been a great success for Liberty and for the digital signage industry because it shows that a digital signage network can enhance the retail environment and generate new revenue when it is carefully designed and strategically integrated into the store environment.
