Objectives
Harley had a DVD based system which lacked flexibility to quickly update promotions, and drew complaints from dealers because the same content repeated every 4 hours for a month at a time. With a digital system Harley has a far greater base of content, and can ensure time sensitive promotions play only at the right times and locations.
Description
A Dell PC connected to the internet runs the Nanopoint software at each dealership. The player has multiple video connection types to meet the various needs of the dealers who have as many as 30 displays in some locations. Approximately 75% of the content is entertainment music videos with the remaining promotions and rider profiles.
Results
A detailed satisfaction survey was conducted with 140 dealers. 86% found the system easy to install, 96% said they like or love the content, 86% have had positive customer reactions and 94% of dealers say that the new digital system is a great improvement over the previous DVD program.
Problems/Challenges
Because more than 90% of the program participants were on the older DVD program and because there were no standards for how video distribution was setup at the dealer level, selecting a player solution that was both universal and easy for the dealers to install was a challenge.
Solutions
Using a Dell PC with multiple video connections (VGA, DVI, S-Video & Composite) allowed dealers to easily swap the player with virtually any video distribution system. Additionally accessory and cabling packages were available to the dealers to make self-installation quick and simple. The result, 99% of dealers installed the system themselves.
