Building A Digital Workplace Governance Strategy That Drives User Adoption
Governance is something that most organizations talk about, but few know where to start. In fact, most organizations don't know exactly what governance is, especially as it relates to the intranet. Most governance sessions today focus on technology products or building a set of rules. This session was developed from more than 10 years of watching organizations struggle with defining and implementing governance, and goes back to basics to help you truly understand what governance really means, WHY governance is important, and how to start simple. In this session, you’ll take a fresh look at understanding governance and how to relate it to your intranet, including:
  • Understanding the purpose of governance and how it relates to your intranet
  • Developing a usable governance strategy
  • Discussing important elements that should be included in your governance plan
  • Informing employees and upper management of new intranet guidelines & rules

Using Creative Tactics and Channels to Help Your Organization Achieve Its Strategic Goals and Objectives
Are you tired of being a private publisher? Do you find yourself writing mostly reactive stories? Do you spend your time putting out fires instead of changing behavior? Do you have too many vehicles with no idea of what’s working and what’s not? Then this interactive workshop is designed for you! The old corporate way of communicating just doesn’t work anymore. Boring, stiff, jargon-filled corporate stories won’t cut it. You’ve got to find a way to grab your audiences’ attention. You’ve got to take the ‘corporate’ out of corporate communication and replace it with ‘creative.’ Dive in with your peers as you design a plan for strategic creative communications, including how to:
  • Take those tired, old stories and flip them upside down — so that people pay attention to them
  • Make the important interesting
  • Start using the new tools available to communicators — including social media and multimedia channels
  • Find and tell the kinds of stories that will cut through the information clutter that is so rampant in your organization
  • Develop the right research strategy so you know what works and what doesn’t work.

Don’t Do It if You Can’t Measure It: How to Make Data-Driven Decisions that Support the Business
In 2015, Citrix experienced the most dramatic change of its 26-year history, including the departure of their beloved CEO, the spinoff of their SaaS business (20% of the company), and companywide restructurings, which turned Employee Communications into a lean, mean team of three.

It was clear to the Employee Communications team that they needed to focus their time and energy on activities that were directly tied to the company strategy. Before they could do that, they had to know what was working, what wasn’t, and how they could constantly adapt to meet the needs of their people and the business – that’s when they became obsessed with data.

Fast forward to 2017… Citrix saw increases across the board in satisfaction, engagement, line of sight, and perception of employee communications, which had the highest rating in the history of Citrix. Follow the steps that Citrix took and discover how to make data-driven decisions that support your goals, including:
  • Low budget (ish) tools you can use to measure employee communications
  • A template for working with stakeholders to ensure projects are strategic, data-driven and aligned with business objectives
  • Best practices and tactics – based on data of course – that you can start using right now
  • How to use measurement to prove your worth.

Day 2 Kick-off and Chairperson's Address: How to Better Communicate by Understanding Cognitive Biases
If we debated every possible option when making a decision, we’d never reach a conclusion for even the simplest choices. Attention is an increasingly limited resource. And capturing attention is a struggle for communicators, both internal and external.

People are selective about what they pay attention to and our brains are forced to react quickly to the amount of complex information we have to process. These quick responses are guided along paths we’ve created in our brains. Some call them errors. Others might use mental shortcuts –but they are all cognitive biases. They are snap judgments are brain uses based on a variety of environment, experiential and biological factors.

During this thought-provoking session, you will learn how understanding different cognitive biases can help you, as communicators shape your internal communications strategy, including how to:
  • Better receive communication as well as deliver it
  • Capture the attention of your audience
  • Recognize the obstacles and opportunities of work within of your employees’ psychological behavior

The Magic of Storytelling: Uncovering Stories Within Your Organization to Build Brand Loyalty and Grow Audiences
Once upon a time communicators had the luxury of crafting long-form feature stories to artfully weave together their company’s narrative. Now, shrinking attention spans demand content that is clear, concise and moving. At the Walt Disney World Resort, the team has devised an editorial process that marries strategy with storytelling to grow audiences and enhance its reputation. In this session you’ll learn how to:
  • Build your social media strategy based on key reputation drivers
  • Bring content owners together to identify the most impactful opportunities
  • Tell your company’s story through the passion of the people who work there
  • Amplify content across internal and external platforms
  • Find the story in the situation in order to give your readers the “happily ever after” they are looking for

One and Not Done: Why All of Your Communications Should Take a Multichannel Approach
When a corporation launches a new product, it pumps millions into marketing via a multitude of channels. The marketers behind the products know consumers are much more apt to take action if they see the messages on the channel they prefer. The same approach applies to communicating important messages to your staff.

Discover why World Wildlife Fund takes a multichannel approach to internal communications and learn how to:
  • Replicate multichannel communications approaches from the outside consumer world
  • Capture busy employees' attention by deploying content through appropriate channels, thus springing them into action
  • Determine how many times to hit your staff with the same message and have it still be effective
